ZestSSH vs JuiceSSH: an actively developed Android SSH client

Last updated October 21, 2026

I built ZestSSH, so take this with the appropriate salt. JuiceSSH was a well-loved app for years; this page sticks to the facts about where it stands.

ZestSSH is an actively developed SSH client for Android that also runs on iOS, Windows, macOS and Linux. Version 3.2.7 shipped in October 2026. It's free to use, with a one-time $9.99 upgrade and no subscription. JuiceSSH hasn't been updated since February 2021, and as of October 2026 it's no longer listed on Google Play.

What happened to JuiceSSH?

As of October 2026. Sources linked below.

  • It's gone from Google Play. Its Play Store page returns "not found". The Wayback Machine has the listing live on October 24, 2025 and gone from December 27, 2025.
  • Its last update was February 2021, according to the last archived listing. That listing also showed more than a million downloads and a 4.1-star rating, from an app first released in 2012.
  • There's no official word. We found no statement from its developer, Sonelli Ltd, about the app's future.
  • Some users report Pro no longer unlocking after reinstalling, and sync not working (Hacker News discussion, January 2026). Those are user reports, not confirmed by the developer.

If JuiceSSH is still installed and working for you, it'll probably keep connecting for a while. But it's getting no fixes, and new phones can't install it from the Play Store.

What does ZestSSH add?

  • Active development, with regular releases; see the changelog.
  • The same hosts on your phone, tablet and computer, synced end-to-end encrypted. That's free when the encrypted file lives on your own WebDAV, S3 or Google Drive storage. See how the sync works.
  • Modern SSH. Post-quantum key exchange is offered first, and Ed25519, ECDSA and RSA keys are supported, as are FIDO2 security keys on desktop.
  • SFTP, a server monitor and snippets, all free.
  • No analytics and no crash reporting; see the privacy policy.

In fairness to JuiceSSH, it did a lot right for a long time: free to start, an optional Pro upgrade, and a clean interface. ZestSSH keeps that spirit: free to start, one purchase, no subscription.

How do I switch from JuiceSSH to ZestSSH?

  1. Install ZestSSH from Google Play. It needs Android 8.0 or later.
  2. Connections: ZestSSH can't read JuiceSSH backups. Add your servers in ZestSSH, or import an OpenSSH config file if you have one.
  3. Keys: if you still have your private key files, import them. Otherwise generate a new Ed25519 key in ZestSSH and add its public key to each server's authorized_keys.

Step-by-step: importing from other apps and key management.
